Stampin’ Up! Prized Peony Birthday Card

This card features the Prized Peony bundle which includes the Prized Peony stamp set and Peony dies. It’s one of those bundles that offers many design options and ease of creating. I’ve posted 3 other cards from this set so far and each one is very different. I think this is my favorite (at least so far!). I would love to hear which one is your favorite. Enjoy!

The Paper

  • Very Vanilla Cardstock: 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″ and 5 x 3 3/4″
  • Just Jade Cardstock: 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″
  • Basic Black Cardstock: 5 1/8″ x 3 7/8″ and a scrap for the sentiment
  • Terracotta Tile Cardstock: 5″ x 3 1/4″ (front) and 5 1/4″ x 4″ (inside)
  • Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper: approx 3 1/4″ x 3 3/4″ for image & die
  • Very Vanilla Medium Envelope

The Creating

  • I used that Stamparatus to stamp the large peony image with StazOn Jet Black Ink on the Watercolor Paper. Tips: 1) the watercolor paper has more texture than standard cardstock and the Stamparatus allows restamping multiple times for a great image (I stamped this one 3 times). 2) StazOn ink is alcohol based so when watercoloring it won’t bleed. 3) you will need StazOn Cleaner to get this ink off your stamp
  • I used Petal Pink, Terracotta Tile, Just Jade and Shaded Spruce ink pads with the smallest Water Painter to color the image. Tips: 1) squeeze the lid and bottom of the stamp pad together to get an ink pallet on the top. 2) Lay a base of the lighter color (i.e., Petal Pink on the flowers) and then add the darker color (Terracotta Tile) in the shaded areas of the stamped image. Let dry or use your Heat Tool between colors/layers. 3) Keep a paper towel handy to dab extra water from your Water Painter to control the color intensity… the wetter the lighter the color will be.
  • Die cut the watercolored image with your die cutting machine.
  • Emboss the smaller Terracotta panel with the Dainty Diamonds 3-D folder.
  • Rub the Basic Black scrap with the Embossing Buddy. Stamp the sentiment in VersaMark ink, sprinkle with White embossing powder and melt with the Heat Tool. Fussy cut with your snips.
  • Adhere the embossed Terracotta panel to the Basic Black Panel with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive. Adhere the peony on top. Tie the Vanilla ribbon in a knot and trim ends. Apply the sentiment with Mini Glue Dots.
  • Adhere the Just Jade panel to the card front. Add the other panels.

For the Inside & the Envelope

  • Stamp the sentiment in black on the Very Vanilla inside panel. Add the two peony images with 2nd Generation Terracotta ink. Adhere to the Terracotta panel and then to the card base.
  • Stamp the peony in First Generation Terracotta ink on the envelope front and flap.

Stampin’ Up! Timeless Tropical Watercolor

This card uses the Timeless Tropical Bundle and Stitched Rectangle Dies. It is accompanied by the Tropical Oasis Designer Series Paper and Lovely Lipstick Cardstock which we will be saying good bye to shortly. It’s time to stock up! Enjoy tonight’s card.

The Cuts

  • Lovely Lipstick Cardstock: 4 1/4″ x 11″ card base scored at 5 1/2″
  • Whisper White Cardstock: 4″ x 5 1/4″; Rectangle Stitched Die (3 15/16″ x 2 5/8″), Floral Die, and 3-Leaf Dies
  • Tropical Oasis DSP: 4″ x 5 1/4″ and 4 1/4″ x 3/4″ Strip

The Creating

  • Use StazOn Black Ink to stamp the Hibiscus and 3 Leaves from the Timeless Tropical Stamp Set. Stamp the Sentiment on the Stitched Rectangle and on the inside panel (This one came from So Sentimental). Immediately clean your stamps with the StazOn Cleaner. This prevents the permanent ink from building up on your stamps. Because StazOn is permanent, it will not run when watercoloring.
  • Use the Petal Pink, Lovely Lipstick, Real Red and Cherry Cobbler Ink to watercolor the flower with the Aqua Painters in layers from dark at the center to light at the edges. The Whisper White will tend to buckle more than Watercolor paper so don’t put too much water down. I just squeeze it into the color on the lid of my ink pads instead of placing it on my paper in this instance. Tip: I also lay the watercolored images face down on my grid paper and apply a large block to the top as it dries to help flatten it.
  • Use the Pear Pizzazz to watercolor in the entire surface of the leaves. Then add Old Olive to one side and Garden Green to the other leaving the veins Pear Pizzazz. Tip: The color inspirations are from the DSP.
  • I wanted more depth in the center so I used matching Stampin’ Blends to the black lines in the image for accent. I used Dark Daffodil Delight and Petal Pink on the stamen and finished with Wink of Stella. I added a little Dark Basic Black Blend to the very center around the base of the stamen. Tip: Don’t be afraid to mix mediums.
  • Use Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive to adhere the DSP layer to the card front and the Stitched Rectangle to the DSP. Position and add the leaves. Also adhere the inside panel and DSP strip inside the card.
  • Pop the hibiscus with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Stampin’ Up! Watercolor with Painted Poppies and So Sentimental Bundle

I love the layers of color that you get with watercoloring. The inks always break into several shades, mix together for new ones and create lots of interest. It was enlightening to see how the unexpected color elements on this card came together. Enjoy!

The Cutting

  • Pretty Peacock Cardstock: 4 1/4″ x 11″ card base scored at 5 1/2″
  • Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Paper: Two – 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper: 3 3/4″ x 5″ and Label Die

The Creating

  • I applied water to the watercolor paper with the large aqua painter individually before adding each color ink with the medium aqua painter. This allows you to control the boundaries in which the watercolor will run.
  • I started with Seaside Spray Ink, decided it was a little lighter than I wanted and added a little Night of Navy Ink along the bottom edge. Then the Pretty Peacock Ink and the Mint Macaroon Ink. Just squeeze your Ink Pad in the middle until the pad touches the lid and you have a pallet in your lid to pick up the color with your aqua painter. I recommend you keep a paper towel on hand to dab any extra water from the tip of your painter or from your paper.
  • Once it was completely dry (if not, the ink will run), I stamped the poppy images in Pretty Peacock Ink and the Sentiment on the label.
  • I added Pretty Peacock spatter. I made a watery ink with the medium aqua painter and tapped it against my finger above the paper.
  • I used Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive to attach the layers to the card base. Especially recommended for the Watercolor Paper because it may slightly warp from the water.
  • I popped the label with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • I added three Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewels. These are a carry over item so if you don’t have them stay tuned. Note: This was one of the interesting color combos because they are actually listed as Coastal Cabana. The other was the DSP which is listed as Pool Party. Moral: Don’t be afraid to experiment. It works beautifully with watercolor.
  • I used the same DSP on the inside with a poppy stamped on the corner. I didn’t add a sentiment because I often find I just need a notecard these days to touch base (without a special occasion) or a sentiment can be added when the card is purposed. Black ink should be easily visible on this light “watercolored” design.

Stampin’ Up! Painted Poppies Watercolor Card

I made this Birthday Card with the Painted Poppies Bundle and sentiments from Peaceful Moments. It is a white embossed watercolor. Watercoloring is so easy and so rewarding.

  • I began with a 4 7/8″ x 3 9/16″ piece of Watercolor Paper. I also used the larger scrap piece that was leftover.
  • I stamped the poppies and leaves from the Painted Poppies Stamp Set in VersaMark Ink, sprinkled with White Embossing Powder and set with the Heat Tool.
  • I used the medium tip Aqua Painter and the following Ink Pads to watercolor the images: Crushed Curry, Lovely Lipstick, Old Olive, and Blackberry Bliss. It’s a good idea to have a paper towel on hand.
I had Flirty Flamingo out, but found there was enough variation with just the Lovely Lipstick.
  • I loaded the Aqua Painter with water diluted Lovely Lipstick and tapped it over the focal image for the Watercolor splatter background.
  • I added the sentiment from the Peaceful Moments stamp set in the top right corner with Blackberry Bliss Ink.
  • I used the Painted Labels Dies to cut out the images on the scrap paper. I popped then up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • On a 4 3/4″ x 3 1/2″ piece of Very Vanilla Cardstock I stamped the poppies in Lovely Lipstick and the sentiment in Blackberry Bliss for the inside of the card.
  • I also added the poppies to a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope for a matching set.
  • I layered on a 5″ x 3 3/4″ piece of Crushed Curry Cardstock, a 5 9/16″ x 4 1/16″ piece of Lovely Lipstick (I cut the center out with a Rectangle Die to use for a future project) and mounted on a 4 1/4″ x 11″ Blackberry Bliss Cardstock scored at 5 1/2″.
  • Note: I adhered the Watercolor Paper with Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive and the other Cardstock Layers with Snail.

Watercolor Winter Rose

Y’all, I’m telling ya’! This product suite is fabulous! Don’t miss out, it’s while supplies last. Not only are the Specialty Designer Series Papers elegantly beautiful and easy to create simple cards, tonight I played with the Cling Stamp and watercolor and a simple supply list.

I embossed the Cling Christmas Rose stamp on a piece of Watercolor Paper with Versa Mark and White Embossing Powder. I used the Stamparatus because I find it easier to get good impressions with larger stamps. And, if you “mess up” and miss a spot, you can reink and stamp in exactly the same spot. I used the Aqua Painter and my ink pads to watercolor the image. So much fun to create an individual piece of art like no other. Just let the first layer dry and go back and add dimension however you would like. Not creative? Use the Designer Series Paper for inspiration.

I originally planned to use the dies to cut out the water colored image and add some DSP, but liked the result so much I decided to let it stand on it’s own. The lighter green…Garden instead of Mossy Meadow, gave it more of a winter than Christmas feel to me. I plan on using it for a general note card instead of a Christmas card, but you could easily stamp a Christmas Sentiment from the set and use it that way.

I adhered the pieces using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive. I added a pine cone and pine bough from the stamp set to the bottom corner. The paper measurements are as follows:

  • Main Image 3 1/2″ x 4 1/2″
  • Cherry Cobbler 4 5/8″ x 3 5/8″ (just eyeball it)
  • Very Vanilla 5″ x 4″
  • Card Base 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″

Supplies will be listed at the end of the blog. Click on the image to order online.
